What is our mission?
The purpose of Sustainable South Shore is to create a model sustainable
community
to help preserve our ecosystem as a whole.
Sustainable South Shore engages in:
- Creating a vision of a sustainable community
- Research and analysis
- Developing consensus through education, publicity, discussion, and
events
- Initiating, supporting, and implementing sustainable projects, including
sustainable air, water, energy, and bio-system projects
- Endeavoring to practice principles of global sustainability in our
own lives.
We seek common ground, helping people feel deeply connected to Earth,
knitting together individuals, families, groups and institutions, and
creating the emotional and spiritual support of true human community
to achieve sustainability.
Who are we?
- Sustainable South Shore currently has members from several South Shore
communities.
- We hope to include members from the entire South Shore.
- SSSh is a chapter of the Massachusetts Climate Action Network (MCAN),
a network of 18 Massachusetts community organizations.
- SSSh received a start-up grant from the New England Grassroots Environmental
Fund.
What are we doing?
- Planning our annual Climate InfoFest / Sustainable Living Festival to be held on or near Earth Day.
- Helping promote Curbside Recycling & Pay-As-You-Throw Trash Pickup.
- Developing a model Climate Action Plan in Hull, beginning with an
assessment of energy use and carbon dioxide emissions
- Writing newspaper articles on CO2 - What's it to you and CO2 - What we can do and other topics
- Promoting increased commuter boat ridership
- Creating a plan for a hydrogen-fuel-cell rubber-wheel trolley system
- Helping make the proposed Weir River Estuary Center a model sustainable "green technology"
building that residents and businesses can learn from
- Supporting wind energy projects in several communities
How does SSSh work?
- SSSh members communicate with each other regularly.
- We adopt goals by consensus.
- We each work on what interests us in creating a model sustainable
community.
- We partner with other organizations.
